Fabulous Army Life

I'm not a skier. In fact, if I ever decide to try this crazy sport again, I wish someone would lock me in the lodge with a margarita and not let me out. Yes, I've had lessons and yes, I know the basics, and no, I really don't care if I am able to make it to the bottom of a mountain intact. I've tested this particular skill more than once and have thus far ended up on the right side of fate but I think we can all agree there's no guarantee there. I wish I was all perky and fearless, swishing snappily down slopes, waving gaily at friends, breathing in the cold winter air and singing tra-la-la all the way down ... but this is just not me. I am scared. It is not fun for me. And no matter how many times I vault myself down a mountain on wooden slats, I cannot see myself enjoying this.  That is my story and I am sticking to it ... until maybe the next time my boys want me to try it and I probably will ... Until I figure out they're doing that just to see me f...

The door decorating contest is a fun part of working at WTC. Our group won 1st place last year so the pressure is on to find another creative and witty door this year. We ended up going with another contractor theme, utilizing a play on words regarding the pink badges that contractors wear.  I love how the door turned out ... but think door #5 by Advocate Branch is likely to take first place this year. I love how they created the AMEDD crest out of Christmas tinsel and lights. Lots of ornate details, personalization of the photos of all the advocates, and leadership photos jumping from a gift box were all great details they included. Nice work! Door #4 is interactive and personalized, which I love, and Door #3 cracks me up with all the crazy sequestration and budget talks we've endured.  Door #1 is highly detailed, personalized to that group, and hilarious to read and Door #2 is beautiful as well.  Fun times at WTC! After weeks of bemoaning the fact that Texas has received more snowfall than DC this winter, the boys were THRILLED to wake up to a full-day SNOW DAY here in Virginia.  They spent hours out in the snow ... building forts, snowball fighting, and making snowmen.  Even Leo joined in on the fun.  He refused to go outside alone but stayed out the entire time the boys were out, playing right along with them. Some hot cocoa and homemade chili warmed us all in the evening and everyone slept well ... further enjoying the 2-hour delay the next day! Hooray for Snow Day 2013!
