Today is National Sibling Day and I must confess that I have some truly fabulous siblings. I grew up with three sisters and a baby brother and could not be more thankful for their presence in my life.
Kristin is my one-and-only full, true blood sibling. Our parents divorced when she was 2 and I was 6 so, of all our siblings, she and I are the ones who spent our entire childhoods together. We fought like crazy all the way through early life, ending only when I left for college. It's funny to look back at it, though, because she is one of my very best friends in the world now. Kristin is an amazing woman, strong, beautiful, and caring. She is loyal and will do absolutely anything for those she loves. She is the most selfless person I know and I admire her so much. She is smart, feisty, fun, and fabulous.
Krissa is my step-sister. We met when were still young and, although we are only 6 months apart in age, never experienced that fierce sibling rivalry. Krissa had this amazing way of being encouraging and fun, even to two new sisters coming into her home every other weekend. Krissa is super smart and is always the life of the party. She is beautiful and hilarious and we never know what she'll come up with next when we're all together. I am eternally grateful to her for accepting us as sisters even at such a young age.
Brittany is my half-sister, as we share a dad. I was a teenager when she was born so she was always fun to dress up and play with when she was a baby. She has become a passionate young woman, strong, bold, and dedicated. She is endlessly devoted to her family and has fervently cared for our father as he has struggled with cancer. She is beautiful and smart and I cannot wait to see what amazing things she will accomplish in this life.
My baby brother is my half-brother as we share our mom. He was born when I was just 11 and I felt like his 2nd mom. I loved dressing him up, playing with him, and carrying him around. As he grew up, he became this truly amazing young man, brilliant, talented, artistic, athletic, witty, and fun. He had this amazing sense of humor and made everyone around him feel like they were the only person in the world. His life was tragically ended much too soon when he was killed in a car wreck at only 20 years old. Our family has mourned his passing and celebrated his life and we all still miss him every single day.
So, on this National Sibling Day, I can be truly grateful for my siblings. I am absurdly proud of each of them and treasure the time we get to spend together. Happy Sibling Day to my most incredible siblings!
